Manage Linking Behavior

Ditto's Figma plugin includes settings that let you control how text layers get linked when duplicating or importing text. All settings are saved per user, per project, and can be changed at any time.

Automatically link duplicated text

By default, when you copy and paste a linked text layer in Figma, Ditto connects the pasted copy to the same text item as the original β€” so any edits made to one will update all of them.

This is great when you want your duplicated text to stay in sync, but can get in the way if you're copying a layer for layout purposes and plan to change the text right after.

Set to Always (default): Copied text layers are automatically linked to the original text item the next time the plugin syncs.

Set to Never: Copied text layers are left unlinked. Each one is treated as its own separate text layer.

Automatically link matching text layers when creating text items

When you select multiple text layers with the same text and add them to Ditto at once, Ditto combines them into a single text item by default β€” so you can manage them all from one place.

Set to Always (default): Identical text layers are linked into one text item when imported.

Set to Never: Each text layer is added as its own text item, even if the text is the same.
