A project in Ditto holds all your product text for a specific feature, product, or design file. It’s where teams collaborate on copy, whether in the Ditto web app for a high-level view or in the Figma plugin for in-context edits.
Import your Figma file as a new Ditto project and keep your mockups up-to-date with the latest copy. Or, begin a draft project in Ditto first and then connect it to a Figma file once the designs are ready. In this guide, we’ll cover both methods for creating projects in Ditto and explain when to use each one.

Create a project from a Figma file
Most product copy starts in Figma alongside design mockups. If you have a Figma file, you can create a Ditto project directly from it. This keeps everything connected and up to date.
💡 Each Figma file will be imported into Ditto as its own project
Create a project from a Figma file:
Open the Ditto plugin in your Figma file (Plugins & widgets → Ditto)
Copy your Figma file’s URL and paste it into the plugin
Select Start a new project and click Continue
💡 We recommend this method for most projects — it ensures writers and designers can collaborate on text from the start
Create a draft Ditto project
If you don’t have a Figma file yet, you can start a draft project in Ditto. This lets you work on text first and link a design later.
Create a draft project:
Open the Projects page in the web app
Select Start drafting text in a blank Ditto project
Name your project and click Continue
Connect a draft Ditto project to a Figma file
Once your designs are ready, you can link a draft project to a Figma file using Ditto’s Figma plugin.
Connect a draft project to a Figma file:
Copy and paste the Figma URL into the plugin and click Continue
Select Connect an existing project and click Continue
Find the draft project in the drop down menu or paste the Ditto draft project’s URL and click Connect with project
Project folders
Organize your projects using folders based on teams, product, or function.
Create a new folder:
Click Add a new folder
Name the folder and click Create
Move projects into a folder:
Drag and drop the project into the target folder
