Now that you’ve added text into Ditto, it becomes the living source of truth for your copy — tracking every edit, capturing the full history of changes, and staying in sync across draft, design, and cross-functional review.
Next up, it’s time to take a crack at editing the text you brought into your project! Here’s some tips on how to collaborate with your team successfully in Ditto.
Collaborate with teammates using Ditto
Writing and refining copy is a team effort that often involves several people. Ditto makes it easy for anyone to leave a comment or suggest edits on any text item, while automatically tracking changes and syncing them between your project and Figma mockups.
Keep copy synced between Ditto and Figma
Ditto will sync any changes you made to a copy between the web app and Figma file automatically if your plugin is open. This ensures your teams will be able to collaborate with the latest copy across all your platforms.
💡 Keep the Figma plugin open to sync text in real time
Additionally, you can manually sync your project by clicking the sync icon (↻) on the top right in both the plugin and the web app.
Start discussions in the comment thread
Communicate with your teammates natively in Ditto using comments. Select a text item, then leave a comment and tag each other to discuss copy revisions, ask questions, and get feedback. A tagged teammate will get notified via email and know it’s time for them to chime in.
💡 Reply to a comment to start a thread
Suggest an edit without editing the text directly
Suggestions is a great way to leave your feedback without having the edits reflected in your design immediately. This is helpful to propose alternative phrasing for text or start a discussion around potential edits.
Make a suggestion:
Select a text item
Switch from Editing to Suggesting mode
Make a suggestion to the text and save
Once your teammate has reviewed the suggestion, they can accept or reject it. Accepted suggestions will immediately be reflected in the text.
Accept or reject a suggestion:
Find the suggestion under Comments
Click accept (✓) or reject (✕) the suggestion
💡 Suggestions are found under the Comments tab and teammates can reply to the suggestion comment thread directly
Track all changes in your activity log
All Ditto projects come equipped with an Activity log that keeps a complete record of edits with user and timestamp information. The log can be viewed from both the web app and Figma plugin, so your team can track each other's work asynchronously.
💡 When you make an edit using the Figma plugin, the change will also get tracked in Figma’s version history
Revert an edit to a previous version
If you made an accidental edit or decide a previous wording was better, you can revert a piece of text back to any version in its edit history.
Restore a text edit:
Select a text item and go to the Activity tab
Find the version to revert back to and click Restore
Get design context in the web app
Ditto eliminates the issue of writers writing blind without any visual context with design previews. By toggling on design preview mode in the top right corner of the web app, you can now see all the Figma frames that contain text linked to that project, even if you don’t have access to the Figma file!
💡 Switch from text view to frame view in design preview to load all the frames on a specific Figma page (we’ll cover this in the next guide on review workflows)
While in design preview mode, you can edit the text, update its status, assign copy, attach library components, and more — just like in text view. Changes will be marked with a blue pen icon until the Figma mockup has been synced with the latest copy edit, after which the updated design will be loaded in the web app.
