Permission Groups

Updated today

Permission groups is an Enterprise-only feature that admins uses to create and manage custom permission groups to restrict access to resources in their workspace. Users in permission groups will have a mix of edit, use, or view access to your workspace’s projects, component folders, variants, variables, and style guides.

Manage your permission group

Only workspace admins can create and edit permission groups for your team. All permission groups can be found in Settings.

There are 3 access levels you can assign to each resource. Any nest resources, such as nested component folders, will be granted the same level of access as the parent resource. If no access levels are granted, that resource will be hidden from the user. Access levels are also hierarchical. Edit gives review and use access, and review gives use access

  1. Edit: full edit access

  2. Review: unable to create or edit, but can leave comments and change statuses/assignee

  3. Use: unable to write, edit, or review, but can use the resource, such as attaching a component to a text item

💡 All Ditto workspaces come with the default Admin, Editor and Reviewer permission groups. These groups cannot be edited and have a preset list of accessibility to your Ditto resources

Create a new permission group

  1. Click + Create permission group, name your group and click Create

  2. Go to the Resource tab and select the relevant access levels across projects, components, variants, variables, and style guides

  3. Click Save Changes

Edit a permission group

  1. Open the 3 dots menu next to the permission group and click Edit group

  2. Make the necessary adjustments to the resources and access levels, then click Save Changes

Assign a user to a permission group

Only admins can adjust the user permissions of users in your workspace. It is possible to assign a user to multiple permission groups. They will be granted access to all of those groups’ resources.

💡 Don’t assign a user to both a default group (ie. Admin, Editor, Reviewer) and a custom group since the default group’s permission will supercede any resource-specific permissions

Assign a user to a permission group:

  1. In the People tab under Settings, open the 3 dots menu next to the user and click Manage permissions

  2. Select the relevant permission group(s) and click Save

💡 Even if a user is not part of the Editor group, their seat will be counted as an Editor seat if they have any editing access in the permission group they’re in. If they don’t have editing access, they will be counted as a Reviewer seat.
